How does Google Checkout work?

Google Checkout makes online shopping quick and easy - now you can buy items from stores across the web, in just a few steps. And you won't have to enter your billing and shipping information each and every time you shop online! Here's how it works:
  • You find something you'd like to purchase from a store that accepts Google Checkout.
  • Add item(s) you'd like to buy to the store's shopping cart.
  • When you're ready to check out and complete your purchase, click the Google Checkout button. You'll need to log in to your account, or create one if you haven't already. Learn more about creating an account.
  • Review your order details and click Place your order now. You're done!
  • After you place an order, we'll send you a confirmation email along with a receipt.

How much does it cost to use Google Checkout?

It's free! You're only responsible for paying for your purchases, including taxes and delivery fees (if applicable). You won't be charged any additional costs for making a purchase through Google Checkout.

A temporary $1.00 authorization may appear on your credit/debit card after you sign up for an account -- this will be removed from your statement after a few days, and you won't be charged the extra $1.00.

What credit or debit cards can I use with Google Checkout?

You can make purchases with Google Checkout using any credit, debit, or gift card with the following logos:
  • Visa
  • Visa Electron
  • MasterCard
  • Solo
  • UK Maestro
  • American Express
  • Discover
Does Google share my email address, telephone number, or address with sellers?

Google takes the privacy of your information seriously. We will not disclose your full credit/debit card number to the stores where you shop and sellers can only view your email address with your permission. Also, sellers may have access to your address and/or telephone number if it's necessary to complete your transaction.

If you'd like, Google will keep your email address confidential. Learn more.

For more details about how we handle your personal information, please review our Privacy Policy.

Can I use Google Checkout outside the United States?

Google Checkout is available to shoppers with billing addresses in a number of locations -- check the Location: drop-down menu on the sign-up page to see if Google Checkout is available in your location.

You will be charged in the currency a seller uses on their web site. Learn more about currency conversions.

Many sellers offer international shipping -- learn more about shipping packages to different locations.

Google Checkout support services are only available in English.

Don't see your location on the list? We're working to make Google Checkout available as widely as possible, and we look forward to expanding our service to more locations soon.

Can I ship things internationally?

Yes. Depending on the shipping options provided by the seller from whom you're purchasing, you may ship orders internationally.

When you add a shipping address to your account, check the Location: drop-down menu for available international locations -- you can ship purchases to any location listed, as long as the seller offers the option.

Do I need a Google Account or a Gmail account to sign up for Google Checkout?

No. If you don't have a Google Account or a Gmail account, you can still sign up for Google Checkout. A free Google Account will automatically be created for you. Your Google Account provides easy access to many Google services. Learn more about Google Accounts.

If you already have a Google Account or Gmail account, you can add the Google Checkout service by logging in with your existing username and password at https://checkout.google.com.

How do I edit my shipping address?

You can add a new shipping address to your account, or edit existing shipping addresses, at any time. Here's how:
  1. Sign in to your Google Checkout account.
  2. Click Edit shipping addresses along the left side of the page.
  3. Enter your address information in the box at the top of the page.
    • If you'd like to make this your default shipping address, click Make this my default shipping address.
  4. Click Save.
Here's how to edit an existing address:
  1. Sign in to your Google Checkout account.
  2. Click Edit shipping addresses along the left side of the page.
  3. Find the address you'd like to change, and click Edit directly below that address.
  4. Enter your new address information.
  5. Click Save.
Here's how to select a different shipping address while placing an order:
  1. From the Secure checkout with Google page, click Change next to the name in the Ship to: field.
  2. Select Add a new address from the drop-down menu to change the shipping address for this order.
  3. Click OK once you've verified the address is correct.
* Keep in mind that you can choose a different address only if you have stored multiple addresses in your Google Checkout account. These addresses will be displayed in the drop-down menu.

Once you have changed your shipping address, the shipping and handling cost will be re-calculated. Please review the shipping method and select the desired option. Once the order is placed, any changes to the order must be applied by the seller.

Also, any changes you make to your shipping address are not retroactive -- if you have outstanding orders, you'll need to contact the seller directly to update your shipping address for items you've already purchased.

How do I edit my email address?

If you signed up for Google Checkout with a Gmail address, you aren't able to change the address associated with your Google Account.

If you signed up for Google Checkout with an address that doesn't end in @gmail.com, you can easily change the email address associated with your Google Account. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Click Edit next to Personal information.
  3. Enter your new email address and password.
  4. Click Save email address.
A verification message will be sent to your new email address, and you'll need to click the link within the message to complete the change. For security purposes, a confirmation email will also be sent to your old email address. Clicking the link sent to your old email address will cancel the change and temporarily disable your Google Account.

Can I have multiple accounts?

To take advantage of the benefits of Google Checkout, we strongly recommend that you create only one account. Your complete purchase history is stored in one place, and you'll only need one username and password to shop quickly and securely online with Google Checkout.

For Google Checkout promotions, however, there may be limitations regarding multiple accounts. Please refer to each promotions' terms for more details.

Can I receive payments by signing up for Google Checkout?

No. You aren't able to receive payments through Google Checkout.

If you sell or want to sell items online, and would like to accept Google Checkout, you can sign up for a seller account. Learn more.

Can I Sell With Google Checkout

Why Google Checkout?

New! Integrate with Google Checkout today and get £50 in AdWords credit when you process £200 through Checkout. Learn more

Free transaction processing

AdWords advertisers can process some, or all, of their transactions each month for free.

For every £1 you spend on AdWords, you can process £10 in sales for free through Google Checkout. For example, if you spent £1,000 on AdWords last month, this month you can process £10,000 in sales through Google Checkout at no cost. The more you spend to promote your business through AdWords, the more you save on transaction processing fees with Google Checkout.

If you don't advertise with Google AdWords or you exceed your free transaction processing for the month, you will only be charged 1.5% + £0.15 per transaction. Learn more

Attract new customers

Now you can add the Google Checkout badge to your AdWords ads, which highlights your store and tells potential customers that shopping with you will be convenient and secure.

Existing Checkout users click on ads displaying the Checkout badge Google Checkout badge 10% more than non-users, meaning more traffic to your site. Learn more

Convert more sales

Lengthy checkout processes frustrate online shoppers who then frequently abandon their shopping baskets. When your store accepts Google Checkout, your customers need not to be among them. The purchasing information of every Checkout user is stored in a single account, so they can buy from you by simply providing their username and password. Learn more

When compared to non-Checkout users Google Checkout customers are 40% more likely to convert than a visitor that hasn't used the service before.

Protect yourself from fraud for free

Google Checkout merchants can sell with complete confidence. Checkout proactively identifies and filters out fraudulent transactions and under our Chargeback Resolution policy, Google evaluates all chargebacks you receive and, whenever possible, fights them on your behalf.

Some transactions are also covered by our Payment Guarantee policy: if you get a chargeback on an eligible transaction and give us all requested documentation and information within 10 days of the request, we will reimburse you within a week. Learn more
